Created for the new Queensland Multicultural Centre, Moving over the Shoreline is a public projection work inspired by historical and contemporary narratives associated with Yungaba house: Brisbane’s purpose-built ninteenth-century immigration depot. Conceived, written and directed by Sarah-Mace Dennis, and developed in collaboration with local communities and multicultural performance groups, this four channel video installation explores movement as a transformative passage that has historically facilitated journey and change. In doing so, the projections visually echo a sensorial trace of the experience of moving to a new landscape. By conceptually evoking ideas associated with movement, the project is a celebration of change and cultural transformation. Scene 1 of this work was created in collaboration with first nations dancers Nunukul Yuggera. |
